Our SCHS Culinary Arts students had the privilege of catering lunch for members of the Spencer County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, 3/20/25. The luncheon featured special guest, Kentucky Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman. As always, Mrs. Roberts and her students did a wonderful job showcasing their talents to the community. Keep making us proud!

๐Ÿฅง Happy Pi Day, SCHS! ๐Ÿฅง Our seniors put the pi in pie this year with a fun (and messy!) fundraiser! Students donated to see which teachers would take a pie to the face, and the top six were Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan, Mr. Eier, Mrs. Peters, Coach Dill, and Coach Burns! ๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿฅง Huge thanks to them for being great sports and to Mrs. Cook for helping make this fundraiser happenโ€”hopefully the start of a new tradition! Pi Day is also a day in which we honor old traditions, and weโ€™re grateful to Mrs. Roberts and her Culinary 2 class for continuing one that meant so much to our school. For years, Mrs. Baldock, a beloved SCHS math teacher, would bring pies to teachers on Pi Day, spreading kindness with each delivery. Though she passed away in August 2022, her legacy lives on through this sweet tradition. ๐Ÿฉต Hereโ€™s to math, memories, and lots of pie!

Itโ€™s time for another work-based learning shout-out and this one belongs to Angelica Solis Balboa! Angelica is a senior at SCHS who plans to attend Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) after graduation. As a student employee for the districtโ€™s School Nutrition Department, she works alongside the SCHS cafeteria staff daily to prep items needed for the current and following daysโ€™ menus. She also assists with serving students and staff on the lines during lunch periods. "Angelica has been a wonderful asset to our cafeteria team. She comes in with her sleeves rolled up ready to go. She goes above and beyond in all her duties. Angelica is always on time, working very hard at everything she does, while always having a positive attitude and a smile on her face! She is always willing to help anyone and do whatever needs to be done. She constantly stays busy. We are very lucky to have such an amazing student worker! " โ€“ Amanda Chesser, SCHS Cafeteria Manager Keep up the great work, Angelica! #TogetherWeCan

Recently, our Health Science Certification classes visited SCES and TES (pictured) to host the Teddy Bear Clinic, an event designed for kindergarten and first-grade students. This hands-on experience helps young children feel more comfortable with medical equipment and procedures, easing any fears they may have about visiting the doctor. It also provides our students with the opportunity to apply their healthcare knowledge, collaborate with their peers, and engage with our younger community. We love seeing these meaningful connections between schools!

Dear Parents and Guardians, As we approach the close of our second full week of school since December, I want to take a moment to address two important topics: student behavior on the school bus and the submission of transportation notes. I have received a significant increase in student misconduct reports regarding behavior on the bus. It is essential to remind our students that the same rules that apply in the classroom also apply on the school bus, as it is still considered school property. I ask for your assistance in reinforcing positive behavior with your child to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all students during their bus ride. Transportation Notes: 1. Deadlines & Written Requests: Any time a student's transportation must change, we require it in writing. Please submit all transportation notes to your child's school no later than 1:30 PM to allow our school personnel sufficient time to review them before dismissal. If a note is turned in after the deadline, it may be denied. 2. Submission Process: We request that all transportation notes be emailed directly to the designated address associated with your childโ€™s school. This will ensure immediate receipt and response, greatly reducing the risk of misinformation. Here are the email addresses for your reference: SCHS: schs.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us Hillview: hva.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us SCMS: scms.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us SCES: sces.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us TES: tes.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us ELC: elc.transportation@spencer.kyschools.us Director of Transportation: cameron.chesser@spencer.kyschools.us 3. Shuttle Notes for Sports: For parents of high school and middle school students involved in sports who need to shuttle, I will accept one note per season that states the student is permitted to shuttle but it must specify they can do it as needed for the season, year, etc. These types of notes will be added into Infinite Campus. 4. Shuttle Routes (HS\MS Students): - If your student is shuttling from SCMS to SCHS, they should ride Route 11. - If they are shuttling from SCHS to SCMS, they should ride Route 16. 5. Approval Requirement: Please remember that students must have an approved transportation note for any changes to their usual route. This policy is crucial for maintaining the safety and proper routing of all of our students as they travel to and from school. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you!

Yesterday, SCHS welcomed current 8th graders for a glimpse into the incredible programs we offer. Student ambassadors led small group tours showcasing many of our CTE programs, including Mrs. Vance's Fashion and Interior Design class. Students in Mrs. Vance's class have been honing their skills by constructing dresses out of toilet paper โ€” like these creative designs completed by Devin Cambron and Keziah Davis.

NTI Day 7
Today, our school partnered with several local law enforcement agencies to conduct a routine and proactive safety check using trained K-9 units. These searches, which included 20 classrooms throughout the building, are part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring student safety and maintaining a secure learning environment for all. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Spencer County Sheriff's Office, Mt. Washington Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Louisville Metro Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, and the Bullitt County Detention Center for their cooperation and assistance. Their presence and support help us reinforce the importance of a safe and drug-free school community. Thank you to our students and staff for their cooperation during this process. Together, we are dedicated to providing a safe space where our students can learn, grow, and succeed.

Floodwaters have receded along all bus routes, with only a couple of exceptions where alternate transportation plans have already been communicated to families. All drivers have been instructed to use extra caution and remain alert for potential ice patches due to lingering drainage along roadways. Additionally, we are closely monitoring the forecast as another round of winter weather is expected tomorrow night into Wednesday morning. Our team will participate in National Weather Service updates this afternoon, evening, and throughout tomorrow to stay informed on potential impacts. In the meantime, we encourage students, staff, and families to prepare for a possible Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) later this week, should conditions warrant a schedule change. Thank you for your support!
