Don't forget about STLP LINE & BRUSH DESIGN COMPETITION
Dates: September 5 – September 30, 2025
Instructions:
-Create original artwork using a computer, tablet, or website.
-Draw everything yourself using a mouse, stylus, or finger—no clip art or copied images.
-Use any app or software you like (Procreate, Sketchbook, Krita, etc.) as long as the work is entirely your own creation.
All they have to do to enter is email Ms. Gabrie (micayla.gabrie@spencer.kyschools.us) their designs! We have received many great entries and hope to receive more!

Every day brings something new in the Pax Lab, and we love seeing our students explore, create, and discover their passions. From rocket launches that reached the sky, to flipping fluffy pancakes, and of course snuggling our favorite guinea pig!

Spencer County Middle School is going to Washington DC June 10-13, 2026 to celebrate America's 250th birthday, and you're invited to join us. We will have an informational meeting on Thursday, 9/18, in Mrs. Gross' room 248 at 6PM. If you cannot make the meeting but are interested in learning more, email michelle.gross@spencer.kyschools.us *There is another travel meeting (Rome) at the same time. If you wish to attend both informational meetings, just let Michelle Gross know.

SCMS STLP is officially rolling! We had our very first team meeting today and nearly 40 students stayed after school to be part of the fun! Don’t worry if your student missed out, it’s not too late to join! Don't forget about our STLP informational meeting Thursday at 5pm in the SCMS library. Our STLP team gives students the chance to explore their creativity and problem-solving skills through the use of technology. From designing projects and competing in challenges to learning real-world tech skills, STLP helps students become leaders in a digital world. Students will have opportunities to showcase their talents.

We want to make you aware that a water main break in the area has led Spencer County High School to cancel after-school activities today. Our team is in constant communication with the City, and we are grateful for their quick response and partnership.

Our Career Exploration Lab is officially in full swing! Students are diving into their first round of careers and getting hands-on experience in so many exciting fields. Here are a few activities we have done this week:
-Making no-bake cooking creations
-Using a ProScope to explore crime scene evidence
-Practicing 911 dispatcher calls
-Designing Sprite characters using our knowledge of pixels
-Learning how to change a sink faucet
-Caring for infants in child development
-Exploring the science of levers

It’s amazing to see our students problem-solve, collaborate, and explore the real-world skills behind so many different careers.

Dear Spencer County Families,

I am writing to you today with some exciting news regarding significant renovations and construction that will soon be underway at Spencer County Middle School and Spencer County Elementary School campus. This is a project we have been planning for some time, and it will bring much-needed updates to both of our schools.

This week, you’ve probably noticed the arrival of construction vehicles, equipment, and a job trailer as site work begins. This marks the start of an extensive, 20-month project that will transform both schools. We know that growth often comes with a few growing pains, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we navigate this process. There will be times when this work will impact our regular routines, especially during arrival and dismissal.

The work will be done in phases and will impact certain areas of the campus at different times. We plan to be in close communication with you through our regular channels as we get more detailed information about those impacts during each phase. The first phase will mainly impact exterior areas.

Just a few highlights of the work that will be completed:

Spencer County Middle School:
Major updates to the mechanical and lighting systems in each classroom
New flooring in the Great Hall / Lobby Area
A new, state-of-the-art multipurpose facility
A full renovation of the existing auditorium’s seating, lighting, and sound system

Spencer County Elementary School:
Major updates to the mechanical and lighting systems in each classroom
A new roof, guttering, and fascia
A brand new gymnasium
The repurposing of the old gym space into a music/performance space and the addition of classroom space.

These long-overdue updates will ensure our students continue to learn and thrive in a safe and modern environment. We are committed to minimizing disruptions as much as possible while maintaining the highest safety standards for our students and staff.
