Spencer County Community;
We are writing to provide a follow-up to our communication yesterday regarding a potential threat that occurred on social media.
Yesterday, Monday, September 16, 2025, at 4:51 PM, a message was sent to families and the community noting that the administration of Spencer County Elementary School was made aware of a potential threat. We understand that the initial message was perceived to be vague and caused concern. It is always our goal to communicate in a timely and transparent way. Yesterday was a great reminder, communication was sent after ensuring that all students and staff still in the building or participating in after-school activities were safe and not in any danger. A district-wide notification was sent exactly 60 minutes after learning of the issue from law enforcement.
This afternoon, we wanted to share a follow-up and update:
First, we want to express our deepest gratitude to Taylorsville Police Chief Sumner and the entire Taylorsville Police Department, as well as Spencer County Sheriff Ware and the Spencer County Sheriff's Office. Their quick response, attention, and visible presence on campus this morning were instrumental in ensuring the safety of our students and staff. We will continue to have a police presence on campus as a precautionary measure, and we will continue to have an extraordinary team of School Resource Officers in our schools each day.
Regarding the incident, we want to clarify some details. The conversation occurred on Facebook. The conversation did not occur on the Spencer County Schools or any of our individual schools' Facebook pages. And a very important point, the reported potential threat did not specifically mention any Spencer County school or our county itself. The potential threat was made during an online discussion between two adults. As a result, an investigation is being conducted by multiple law enforcement departments in coordination with the Spencer County Attorney's office. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we will not release specific details about the individuals involved or the actions taken. Please be assured that we are working closely with law enforcement and will provide updates as we are able.
Thank you for your patience, grace, and for entrusting us with the safety of your children.
Sincerely,
Dr. Willie Foster, Superintendent

Upon receiving that report, the Taylorsville Police Department coordinated with their partners at the Spencer County Sheriff's Office to ensure the safety of students during the rest of the dismissal period.
At this time, local law enforcement continues to work all leads and will have an active presence all day tomorrow on campus.

We want to make you aware that a water main break in the area has led Spencer County High School to cancel after-school activities today. Our team is in constant communication with the City, and we are grateful for their quick response and partnership.
At this time, we do not anticipate any impact on school operations for tomorrow, Wednesday, September 3, 2025. If that changes for any reason, we will notify you immediately.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to keep things running smoothly.
Dr. Willie Foster

I am writing to you today with some exciting news regarding significant renovations and construction that will soon be underway at Spencer County Middle School and Spencer County Elementary School campus. This is a project we have been planning for some time, and it will bring much-needed updates to both of our schools.
This week, youโve probably noticed the arrival of construction vehicles, equipment, and a job trailer as site work begins. This marks the start of an extensive, 20-month project that will transform both schools. We know that growth often comes with a few growing pains, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we navigate this process. There will be times when this work will impact our regular routines, especially during arrival and dismissal.
The work will be done in phases and will impact certain areas of the campus at different times. We plan to be in close communication with you through our regular channels as we get more detailed information about those impacts during each phase. The first phase will mainly impact exterior areas.
Just a few highlights of the work that will be completed:
Spencer County Middle School:
Major updates to the mechanical and lighting systems in each classroom
New flooring in the Great Hall / Lobby Area
A new, state-of-the-art multipurpose facility
A full renovation of the existing auditoriumโs seating, lighting, and sound system
Spencer County Elementary School:
Major updates to the mechanical and lighting systems in each classroom
A new roof, guttering, and fascia
A brand new gymnasium
The repurposing of the old gym space into a music/performance space and the addition of classroom space.
These long-overdue updates will ensure our students continue to learn and thrive in a safe and modern environment. We are committed to minimizing disruptions as much as possible while maintaining the highest safety standards for our students and staff.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we begin this important work. We will keep you updated on our progress and any logistical changes throughout the project.
Sincerely,
Dr. Willie Foster
Superintendent, Spencer County Schools

As we navigate this young school year, we want to ensure our district communication systems are a point of pride. Your ability to receive timely and accurate information, especially during an emergency, is one of our top priorities.
Today, we are conducting a comprehensive test of our communication systems, which includes phone calls, text messages, emails, and app notifications. This test will help us verify that our systems are working correctly and that your contact information is up to date.
To help us ensure a seamless communication experience for everyone, we kindly ask that you take a few moments to do the following:
Update Your Information: Whenever you change your phone number or email address, please call your child's school or the district office to have your contact information updated. We can't reach you if our records aren't accurate!
Keep Your SC Schools App Updated: Please make sure the SC Schools app is installed and regularly UPDATED on your device and that notifications are turned ON. This is one of the fastest ways we will communicate important information.
Let Us Know If You Didn't Receive It: If you did not receive this message as a phone call, text, email, and app notification, please let us know so we can help resolve the issue for you.
Thank you for your partnership. We are committed to making sure we can connect with every one of our families. We look forward to a fantastic school year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Willie Foster,
Superintendent

Weโre happy to share that the login issue with our school app and ROOMS has been resolved! ๐
You will now remain logged in and no longer need to repeatedly enter your username and password. This update should make accessing important school information much smoother and more convenient.
Please make sure your notifications are turned on so you donโt miss any updates, announcements, or messages from teachers and staff.
Thank you for your patience while we worked through this issue. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out.
